Roughly 50 automobiles have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Officers report they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.
The liquid had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then found multiple other marked automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report early analysis indicate the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; authorities are not yet aware of any harm in association with the incident," they commented.
City officials stated they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the community for details.
An important representative stated the incident made him speechless and required to be resolved rapidly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist attack five years ago," he posted on online, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on residents of migrant background in five years prior.
